As a uni student, my first year was filled with countless nights spent in the dark, sticky confines of various nightclubs, dazed and confused yet feeling a strange feeling of belonging. I’ve danced my heart out, seen unrecognised numbers saved in my contacts list, downed a concerning amount of jägerbombs, braved the long lines, and faced the wrath of many a rude bouncer. I've had my fair share of both epic nights and downright horror stories, from losing friends in the crowd to dealing with overly intoxicated strangers. I'd say I completed first year the right way; being an out-of-control feral club rat. While clubbing can be a rite of passage, I’ve discovered that there’s a far more enjoyable and sophisticated way to spend your evenings: the boujee bar night out.

In my first year, clubbing seemed like the ultimate way to blow off steam and socialise. However, the thrill of neon lights and thumping bass quickly wore off. Clubs are often overcrowded and overstimulating, and it's not uncommon to encounter rude bouncers or overly aggressive patrons. The experience of being a club regular started feeling more embarrassing than exhilarating. There's only so many times you can shout your drink order over deafening music or navigate through seas of sweaty bodies before it loses its charm.

Enter the world of boujee bars. These upscale, themed bars offer an entirely different kind of nightlife experience. Take The Alchemist in London, for example. Known for its theatrical cocktails that smoke, bubble, and change color, this place is not just a bar, but an experience. Similarly, Gin and Juice in Bristol offers a vibrant, jazz-inspired haven with an extensive gin menu that puts any club’s basic vodka mixers to shame. The Marvin Gaye themed cocktail would put anything to shame really. I quickly had to add that drink, accompanied by 'Let's Get it On' to my Instagram highlight.

These bars provide an ambiance that clubs simply can’t match. Imagine sitting in a cozy, stylish setting with your friends looking fly as f*ck, enjoying a beautifully crafted cocktail and actually being able to have a conversation without yelling over the music. Themed bars often have unique decor and a distinct atmosphere that make each visit feel special and memorable. It’s a chance to explore your city, discovering hidden gems and indulging in a bit of luxury.

However, it’s important to acknowledge that these boujee bars can be pricey. A single cocktail might set you back as much as two or three drinks at a club. But think of it as an investment in quality over quantity. Instead of chugging down cheap drinks to get drunk, you’re savoring high-quality beverages in a much more enjoyable setting. Plus, the memories you make in these refined environments are often worth the extra cost.

While the occasional club night might still have its place, I firmly believe that trading in the crowded dance floors for the sophistication of boujee bars can elevate your social life. You’ll have better conversations, enjoy your drinks more, and experience the city in a new and exciting way. So next time you're planning a night out, ditch the club and treat yourself to a boujee bar adventure. Trust me, your nights out will never be the same again.

The club still needs to be attended don't get it twisted. Heal your inner club rat. If you look good, you gotta act BAD.
